Get Ready for a Visit...

Students reading with dog in classroom

There is a great deal to consider before allowing a dog and its handler to visit your classroom and your school.

  • First, think about the children in your class. Are any afraid of dogs? How about allergies? Do any of the children have the potential to be too aggressive?

  • Will the parents of your students approve of a visit by a dog, even if the dog is on its best behavior?

  • Does your classroom have the right accommodations for a visit by a dog?

Your students need to know the rules of a visit as well.

Don't forget the parents. A reputable therapy team will not visit unless you have secured permission from the parents or guardians of the children in your class.
